Aleksandar Popovski is the director and artistic director of the Macedonian National Theatre since 2019. He is also an internationally renowned actor and director.
Popovski was born in Skopje, Macedonia, in 1972. He studied acting at the University of Skopje and graduated in 1995. He began his career as an actor at the Macedonian National Theatre, where he worked until 2002.
In 2002, Popovski switched to directing. He has directed several plays in Macedonia, Europe, and the United States. His directorial work has won several awards, including the main prize at the Thessaloniki International Theatre Festival in 2017.
Popovski's directorial work has been described as visually stunning and emotionally powerful. His plays often deal with social and political issues.
Popovski is also an active cultural politician. He has served as president of the Macedonian Theatre Association since 2015. He has also campaigned for the promotion of Macedonian theatre internationally.
