Pollumeeste Kogud
Põllumeees Kogud (in modern literature also Põllumeestekogu ; in English Farmers' Assemblies ) was an agrarian organization founded in Estonia in 1920.
The previous peasant party, Estonian Peasant Union , was founded in 1917 with the aim of uniting the rural population into a strong political party, leaving the cities to other political parties. Having borne the burden of creating a state during the period of German occupation and the beginning of the War of Independence, but lost votes in the Constituent Assembly elections to left-wing political parties due to its positions (private property, religious education in schools, etc.). The Estonian Maarahva Liit got only 8 out of 120 seats. The party's newspaper Maaliit was closed for criticizing the socialist government. The organization of rural people at farmers' congresses continued.
