The flag of Jordan is a horizontal tricolor of black, white, and green with a red isosceles triangle on the hoist side. The black band represents the Abbasid Caliphate, the white band represents the Umayyad Caliphate, and the green band represents the Fatimid Caliphate. The red triangle represents the Hashemite dynasty and the Arab Revolt. The seven-pointed white star on the triangle represents the seven verses of the opening sura of the Quran, as well as the seven hills on which Amman, the capital of Jordan, is built.
