Islamrat Für Die Bundesrepublik Deutschland

The Islamic Council for the Federal Republic of Germany e. V. (IR) is in addition to the larger Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion e. V. , the Association of Islamic Cultural Centers e. V. and the smaller Central Council of Muslims in Germany e. V. an Islamic umbrella organization in Germany. It was founded in Berlin in 1986 as a nationwide coordination body and joint decision-making body for Islamic communities . The IR sees itself as the legal successor to the “Islamic World Congress Branch Berlin e. V." Ali Kızılkaya was the chairman from 2002 to 2015 . Since 2015 isBurhan Kesici the chairman of the Islamic Council. The association is based in Cologne . The Islamrat represents 37 member associations with an estimated 40,000 to 60,000 members.  The largest member association is the Turkish Islamic Community Millî Görüş (IGMG), which is monitored by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. It represents the majority of the members and the chairperson. Since April 2007, the Islamic Council has been a founding member of the Coordinating Council of Muslims and provided its spokesman from April to September 2008 with Ali Kızılkaya and from April to September 2020 with Burhan Kesici
