The General Directorate of Security ( EGM ) or the Turkish Police Organization is the state organization responsible for internal security , which was first established on April 10, 1845 and is organized in all provinces and districts in Turkey today . The General Directorate of Security operates in the cities, and the Coast Guard Command is responsible for the coasts and the Gendarmerie General Command for the rural areas .

Provincial police directorates and district police chiefs constitute the provincial organization. The general directorate is subordinate to the Ministry of Interior in terms of upper institutions and administration .
