The 1. VfL Potsdam eV is a handball club from Potsdam, Brandenburg.
The association was founded on April 19, 1990. Its origins lie in the company sports association of theGDRfilm companyDEFA. Just two years later, in 1992, the club became a statehandballbase. In 2002/2003 the female department left the club as a whole and switched to the newly founded HSC Potsdam.
The flagship is the men's team, which made it into the2nd Bundesligain the 2008/09 season without losing a point . They had already played there a season before, but were relegated straight away. By reaching 5th place in the 2010/2011 season, the team qualified for the one-part2nd Bundesligafrom the 2011/2012 season. In 2012 they were relegated to the3rd division; there she plays in the season north or north-east.
In July 2013, the board of directors filed for bankruptcy. The process was completed in June 2014.
